In most countries, Poon Hill would be called a mountain, but here in the Nepal Himalayas it is certainly a hill. Poon Hill is one of the most famous viewpoints in the world and it is probably the second most famous viewpoints after Kala Pattar and others.There are many options to extend a trip here, and the only limits to the length of the trek are time and imagination. There are lodges all along the route so there’s little need to carry a huge pack. The trek is very popular and can be very crowded in peak season, so in other words, expect a great trip with lots of mountain views, but don’t expect solitude. The trail passes through several interesting villages and different cultures, and the scenery is also very spectacular. Since the trail never ascends to really high altitudes, it is suitable for most people including children.

The region north of Kathmandu offers a multitude of trekking destinations, all accessible without flights. The three major areas are Langtang, Gosainkund and Helambu, which can be combined in many different ways to make treks from seven to 16 days long. Langtang is a narrow valley that lies just south of the Tibetan border. It is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. Langtang Lirung (7246 metres) dominates the valley to the north; Gang Chhenpo (6388 metres) and Naya Kangri (5846 metres) lie to the south; and Dorje Lakpa (6966 metres) protects the east end of the valley. The area was designated Nepal's first Himalayan national park in 1971.
