Round Annapurna Trekking is Nepal’s classic trek, and offers a broad and varied slice of Nepalese culture and scenery. The Annapurna region in Central Nepal is one of the most geographically and culturally diverse regions for trekking. The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) has declared this region as area of conservation and sustainable development for nature walking and trekking. Stretched over 2600 sq.km. the area boasts of a variety of diverse cultures, tribes and castes as the Brahmins, Chettris, Newars, Gurungs, Magars, Manangis and the Tibetans. This area has sub-tropical lowlands, valleys, bamboo, oak and rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, windswept desert plateaus and the towering Annapurna Mountains.

The Panchase trek can be extended in several ways. From Panchase hill it is possible to trek through the large Gurung village of Author and continues on to Karkinetta. Here some very basic accommodation may be found. The choice then is to trek to Kusma, on the Baglung highway in one day from where a bus can be taken back to Pokhara. Alternatively, there are buses and jeeps available at Karkinetta that connect directly with Pokhara.

Within Annapurna range of the Central Nepal Himalaya lies Tilicho Tal (lake), at 4,919m one of the highest of its size in the world. Stretching about 2.5mi / 4km long and about 0.6mi / 1km wide, it lies at the foot of the 23,400' / 7,134m summit of the same name, north of the Grande Barrier a 10km / 6mi long wall of rock, ice and snow. This is a splendid summer trek, as rewarding as it is challenging.

This area north of Pokhara offers some of the most dramatic close-up views of some of the highest and most beautiful mountains in the world. The abrupt variation in altitude found here is astonishing. From the Pokhara airstrip at (850m), the summit of Machhapuchare (6993m) is less than 20miles away, with no intervening ranges to spoil the view. In fact the views along the whole of the trek are superb.
